San Gerardo de Rivas
Downtown San Gerardo (pop. 800)
consists of little more than a soccer field, community center, school
and church, and the Chirripo National Park office.
Opposite the soccer field is the hotel/restaurant Roca Dura,
and next door is the pulpería (general store), where you
can leave messages. Up the road a bit is
Robino's pizza cafe.

San Gerardo has several places to stay, including Luis Hernandez' Roca
Dura, Francisco Elizondo's El Descanso
(506-771-7962), Rafael Elizondo's El Pelicano, Maria's El Bosque (506-386-2133), and Albergue
Marin, all cheap and basic. Nearer Cloudbridge is Albergue
Urán (506-742-5003) and the charming Casa Mariposa
(506-742-5037), which offers special rates for
Cloudbridge volunteers. More upscale is the attractive Rio Chirripo Retreat, down the
road in Canaan (506-771-4582) and the Hotel Talamanca
(506-742-5080) cabins.
