Cloudbridge Reserve - Research Reports
Biomonitoring
of Habitat Recovery

This study is long term
project designed to monitor the cloud
forest's recovery and biodiversity at Cloudbridge.
We monitor 7 Sites selected to represent different conditions.
At each Site, we document four aspects of the ecosystem: (1)
the surrounding flora, (2) the ground conditions, (3) fauna, and (4) a
species count in several two-meter-square quadrats near the Site.
The Sites are the
same as those chosen for the Photomonitoring
study,
and the results can be matched up with the photographic database.
Our
methodology is described in the Biomonitoring Guide (see below). The
intention is to record these observations every 6 months -- research
volunteers are needed. The sites
include those undergoing deliberate reforestation (see the Reforestation sequence of
pages) and others where natural recovery is occurring (see Forest Recovery in the
Nature Notes).

Methodology: Documents
The field research methods are described in three related
documents, and three sets of forms:
- The Biomonitoring Guide.
This is a comrehensive description of the field research and data
recording technique employed by each biomonitoring researcher. It's
essential reading for those who hope to work on this project.
- The Biomonitoring Field Guide.
This is a handy 2-page summary, intended to be laminated and taken into
the field.
- The Biomonitoring Site Map. This
shows the locations of the 7 Bio/Photo Observation Sites on the
Cloudbridge Reserve.
- Field
Reporting Forms.
Below are samples of the Field Reporting Forms. Click on
each image to retrieve a printable version.
Table 1. Biomonitoring
Site Form. One for each of the seven sites.

Table 2. Quadrat
Sampling Form. Two or more for each site.

Table
3. Species Attribute Form. To be used to record and describe new
species -- those not already described in previous field reports.

Results
The
field research results are retained in a database that can be queried
to view the findings in a number of differnet ways. They available upon
request.
